What Solving Techniques does SadMan Sudoku Use?

SadMan Software Sudoku uses the following solving techniques (text in brackets indicates alternative names):

  • Hidden single (unique candidate)
  • Block / column / row interactions (pointing pair)
  • Block / block interactions
  • Naked pair, triplet and quad (naked subset, disjoint subset)
  • Hidden pair, triplet and quad (hidden subset, unique subset)
  • X-Wing
  • Swordfish
  • XY-Wing
  • XYZ-Wing
  • XY-Chain
  • Colouring
  • Forcing chains
  • Trial and error (Ariadne's thread, backtracking, guessing)
